Here's what you need to know:
- To get a permit, you'll need to prove you're a resident or property owner in Walton County by taking a copy of a utility bill, your driver's license or a tax receipt to the Walton County Clerk's Office.
- A certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian showing the pet has been vaccinated for rabies is required.
- All names on the documents must match (the name the veterinarian puts on your dog's rabies vaccination sheet needs to match the name on your application and the name on the proof of ownership/residency.
- The permit cost is $40 and there is a $10 fee to replace your tag if it gets lost.
- All permits expire on August 1 each year (there is a grace period until August 15)

Beach Dog RulesThe people of South Walton love their dogs! While there are several dog friendly places in South Walton, the county does not allow dogs on the beach without a permit.
- Dogs must remain on a leash
- Bring bags to pick up any waste they may leave behind
- Dogs are allowed on the beach during certain times of day: Spring/Summer - 4pm to 8am | Fall/Winter - 3pm to 9am
